Agriculture is the main occupation in the Indian Peninsula with more than half of its population involved in the occupation. Albeit, much of the practices in agriculture remain traditional in the region, from sowing uptil harvest. It is in this juncture the agri-business venture of the PTS Group plans to foray into an Integrated Farming model that aims at creating a synergy between farm to fork. PTS Farms is the youngest off-shoot in the PTS Group that aims at developing a sustainable value chain across all levels of crop production through harvest till marketing, catering to as well as capturing the local and global demand.

PTS Farms is situated in Thanjavur (Tanjore) district of Tamil Nadu state in India. The region is considered a rice bowl of the southern state. The district is well endowed with alluvial and red soils flourished with the river Cauvery, one of the important rivers of South India. PTS Farm is located at Aachampatti village of thanjavur district , which is 26 km from the Thanjavur Railway station in the Sengipatti– Gandarvakottai Highway. The nearest airport is Tiruchirapalli Airport situated at a distance of 38 km from the farm. PTS farm is located in a plain red soil block with surplus water availability extending to an area of 96 acres.

Thanjavur receives an average annual rainfall (precipitation) of 938 mm together by south-west and north-east monsoons. The period of North-East monsoon between Oct-Dec is the main rainfall period in the region.

PTS Farms integrates modern agricultural practices in an organic environment to develop a stable yet sustainable agricultural model that is efficient in resource optimization to maximize production and productivity. The agri-business venture tries to tap the unexplored potential of the horticultural market, specifically of Banana, Guava, Amla, Mango, Coconut, Pomegranate, Grapes, Citrus fruits and major fresh Vegetables.

The farm engages in cultivating the best varieties of fruits and vegetables as per the market needs in cohort to the local agro-ecological conditions. Inputs used in cultivation in the farm are of the highest quality beginning with seeds and nutrients. Much of the tilling activities are carried out with modern equipments and irrigation is taken care by automated irrigation systems, mainly sprinkler and drip micro-irrigation systems. Efforts are in progress to utilize the best technologic interventions for undertaking plant protection measures in a holistic pattern.

In this template of hi-tech organic cultivation, PTS farms mosaics other allied agricultural activities in its framework – mainly Silviculture, Poultry, Dairy, Vermicomposting, Goatery and Pisciculture at present. The Farm hosts a modern goat rearing unit comprising Tellichery and Boer breeds. Being an integrated organic unit, the farm utilizes local feeds available in the farm as the best source of feed to the livestock. Fast growing pasture trees like Glyricidia, Sunhemp, Neem are raised in the farm that act as green manure as well as feed. The manures from the livestock eventually pass onto the vermin-composting units.

Dairy and Poultry units are also set up as part of the farming project along with rearing fishes as the region is well known for inland fisheries.

Coming to the post –harvest activities of the farm, the farm aims to cater to both the domestic as well as the global markets, while productivity and quality shall remain the ultimate USP of our venture.
